- abstract = "This research proposes in situ distributed genetic programming (IDGP) as a method for achieving continual post-deployment system optimisation in wireless sensor networks (WSN). A number of significant challenges are identified that would need to be addressed in order to achieve the desired outcome. These include: distributed evaluation of global fitness and non-detrimental distributed genetic programming on resource constrained hardware. Preliminary tests indicate that such an approach is plausible and even suitable for specific deployments. Achieving networks that can adapt and evolve their behaviour throughout the life of the deployment, would reduce, or even remove completely the need for post-deployment reprogramming.",
